MBABANE - Wife to Ntfonjeni Member of Parliament (MP), Sifiso Wilfred Magagula, reportedly collapsed during a family meeting after the legislator informed her that they should end their marriage.

The MP, who is popularly known as Sompisi, is accusing his wife, Zanele Luyanda Magagula (nee Dlamini), of infidelity or being in a love relationship with another man.
So serious was the situation during the meeting that Zanele had to be rushed to hospital.

During the meeting, which was attended by family members of both parties, the MP is said to have further stated that, he no longer trusted his wife and because of that he saw it prudent that they should end their marriage.  The legislator was quoted having said: “Kumetsemba sekuphelile ngaleso sizatfu sale sihlukana kuba ngumfati nendvodza ngoba wente intfo lelukhuni kutsi ingengca engcondweni yami.”

Collapsed

The wife is said to have collapsed immediately after the legislator had finished making his submissions.
She was thereafter rushed to hospital by one Thembumenzi and her sister Lindiwe Dlamini. The incident resulted in the meeting being postponed.
The legislator has since approached the High Court where he is seeking an order declaring the Swazi Law and Custom marriage between him and his wife nullified.

He wants the court to declare him unmarried.
Magagula is further seeking an order directing the registrar of Births Marriages and Deaths (BMDs) to cancel and/or expunge the entry of the Swazi Law and Custom marriage contracted by him and his wife on May 21, 2006. He pointed out that there were three children born out of the marriage with their ages ranging between seven and 17 years.

The MP informed the court that pursuant to the marriage with Dlamini, they resided at Mshingishingini, a place they considered to be their matrimonial domicile and being the place where they brought up their children.

“During the subsistence of my marriage with the first respondent (Dlamini), we did enjoy a couple of years as a married couple, though we would misunderstandings just like in any other relationship,” submitted the legislator.
He alleged that on or about February 2018, he discovered that his wife was having an extra-marital affair with one Sifiso Mbhamali.
Confronted
“When I confronted the said Sifiso Mbhamali and the first respondent about the affair, they both confirmed the infidelity which has been going on for some time. This resulted in a serious strain between me and the first respondent,” said the MP.
According to Magagula (MP), they were now sleeping separately as husband and wife and they no longer afforded each other conjugal rights as a married couple.
He also highlighted that there was no longer any meaningful communication between him and his wife as a result of the alleged infidelity.
“In fact, following the discoveries of the first respondent’s infidelity, we became separated, as of today, the first respondent has moved out of our matrimonial homestead,” said the MP.
He alleged that following the occurrence of the infidelity and in an endeavour to salvage their marriage, three meetings were held by their families.
According to the legislator, the first meeting was held on December 18, 2018, while the second and third meetings being in February, 2019.
Meeting
Magagula said the meetings between the families had failed to salvage the marriage between him and Dlamini.
He narrated that following the meetings of the families, they then reported the matter at Mshingishingini Royal Kraal (umphakatsi).
The MP alleged that a resolution was reached by the Umphakatsi confirming that the marriage had broken down and that their marriage certificate should be expunged from the marriage registry.
These are allegations contained in an affidavit whose veracity is still to be tested in court and the wife is yet to file her papers in the event she is opposing the application.
He further pointed out that affidavits had been sworn to by him and Dlamini, together with those who participated in the ‘kuteka’ (traditional wedding) ceremony, confirming that the marriage between him and his wife had indeed became a nullity.
“It is against that backdrop that I seek an order to expunge my marriage and be declared unmarried. I am advised and verily believe that I have exhausted all the necessary avenues,” contended the MP.
The matter is still pending at the High Court and appearing for the legislator is Hasso Magagula of Robinson Bertram.
