KAPHUNGA – Police are expected to launch a probe after a female Correctional officer was found hanging, with bruises on different parts of her body.
Zinhle Mndzebele’s body was found hanging from the rafters inside her house, at KaPhunga, on Monday morning.

This was after a relative called a neighbour to go and check on her because she was not answering his calls. Apparently, the relative knew that Mndzebele was home after taking a few days off work.

Phone

It’s not clear how long the woman had been hanging inside the house, but a neighbour told the police that she was called by a relative, who told her that the woman had not been answering her phone since the previous day.

The worried relative reportedly told the neighbour that it was unusual for the officer not to answer her calls, which was why the family member asked for her assistance. The relative’s worst fears were later confirmed after the neighbour found the officer hanging inside her house.

Employed

The 35-year-old woman was employed as a wardress at His Majesty’s Correctional Services, based at Sidvokodvo, at the time of her demise. This was further confirmed by HMCS Public Relations Officer Gugulethu Dlamini, when contacted yesterday.
Even though her body was found hanging, it is understood that marks and bruises on the woman’s head and body led many to believe that she may have been murdered.

Police, on the other hand, have asked for a post-mortem examination to be conducted on the woman’s body in order to determine the direction their investigation should take, following the shocking discovery on Monday morning.

Police officers from KaPhunga were initially sent to the woman’s marital homestead to conduct a search after they received the report about her death. They also found her body hanging from the roof. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

 Investigators

Sources revealed that investigators who were first at the scene noted the bruises on the woman’s body before taking the corpse to a morgue in Hlatikhulu.
Witnesses said there was an overwhelming sense of sadness at the woman’s marital homestead following the discovery of her dead body.

A relative of the woman said her death came as a terrible shock to the family. “When I heard about it I was so upset. I heard that some family members were sent to report the sad news to her biological father, we are yet to get feedback on how they were received,” explained the relative, who confirmed that the family was not convinced that the woman committed suicide.
