SOMHLOLO – “Some people want positions and they kill for them.”

These were the words of His Majesty King Mswati III, during his sermon at the main service of the Easter weekend at Somhlolo National Stadium on Sunday. The King, in vernacular, even mentioned that “Kute inyama yemuntfu lengaletsa sikhundla!”
This can loosely be translated to mean ‘no ritual killing can elevate one into a position of power’. The monarch, who was fired up during his sermon, is the appointing authority in the country. In his 30-minute sermon, the King said there were people in the world who were like the biblical Haman. These people, the monarch said, were short-sighted, power hungry and were devious in their means to attain power. He said: “Some people want positions and they kill for them.”

Bow

As described in the Book of Esther, Haman was the son of Hammedatha the Agagite. After Haman was appointed the principal minister of the king Ahasuerus, all of the king’s servants were required to bow down to Haman, but Mordechai refused to. Angered by this, and knowing of Mordechai’s Jewish nationality, Haman convinced Ahasuerus to allow him to have all of the Jews in the Persian Empire killed. The King said Haman was plotting to kill Christians and forgot that the plans that were being hatched were against children of God. He said it was impossible for God to leave His children in challenge. “Men like Haman will always be there in the world and they forget that we have God – to whom we take all our challenges to.” His Majesty further reminded the nation that God needed no money from His people. He said no witchcraft and declarations made against those who were in Christ were to be successful.

The monarch said in the Bible, when God dealt with Haman, He removed Vasht in the royal household and replaced her with Esther. Esther invited Haman and the king to two banquets. In the second banquet, she informed the king that Haman was plotting to kill her (and the other Jews). This enraged the king, who was further angered when (after leaving the room briefly and returning) he discovered Haman had fallen on Esther’s couch - intending to beg for mercy from Esther, but which the king was interpreted as a sexual advance.  The King said men like Haman wanted positions and they could do anything for them. He implored the gathering to leave Haman’s corner and take God. “When they were planning and plotting to kill Christians, they forgot that God sees beyond what the naked eye sees. God is always ahead such that even if you are a group of four planning evil deeds, there is always a fifth one.”
