NHLANGANO – Be careful please!  Make sure you collect your building material on the day you buy it from Baceth Hardware. Otherwise, you will be charged 15 per cent of the total value for the merchandise if you don’t do so.

To beat the 15 per cent penalty, the shop assistants said customers should alternatively report their inability to collect the merchandise on the day they make the purchase.

The proprietor for Baceth Hardware is Hosea MP Mduduzi Bacedze Mabuza.
Gogo Thuli Manana from Hlatikhulu in the Shiselweni region learned the hard way on Monday when she was told by the shop’s assistants to pay E531.90 as a penalty for keeping her goods in the shop’s storage for three days.

She was told that she was supposed to collect them on Friday, but only showed up on Monday.

no money for storage fee

Manana, the mother of four; is aged 63. She does not have money to pay the storage fee, and Baceth Hardware had not released the merchandise to the senior citizen at the time this report was compiled and finalised at 11am yesterday.
The amount of E531.90 is the equivalent of 15 per cent of E3 546.00, which the old woman spent on buying a fascia board, six-metre gutter, air ventilators and a downpipe.

It was on Monday when she learnt that she had to part with 15 per cent of the total value for the goods.
She narrated to this newspaper that she had asked a man who runs a rental vehicle business in Nhlangano to transport her merchandise to her home in Hlatikhulu, but the man could not do so on the grounds that it was raining in Nhlangano on Friday.

She said the man was able to go to the shop to collect the goods on Monday. It must be said that her relatives informed the Times SUNDAY of her frustration.
She could only be approached to comment on the allegations that she had not collected her goods by yesterday afternoon because she was struggling to raise the storage fee.

not made aware

She complained that she was not made aware of the storage fee when she left the goods with them.
“They showed us a notice on the wall on Monday when we came to collect the material,” she said.

She said she talked to the manager of Nhlangano branch, who in turn referred enquiries to the MP. Manana explained that the lawmaker did not assist her.
“She told me that was how they raised money as a shop,” the woman said.

Manana felt she should be given back her money.
“They refused to give me back my money, saying it has already been receipted and included in their financial system,” she said.

it’s hardware’s policy

The manager of the Nhlangano branch, who did not give her name, confirmed the existence of the 15 per cent policy which was being charged as a storage fee on customers who kept their material in the shop’s storage after they had made the purchase.
