NHLANGANO – Two men who were wanted for the brutal murder of a popular soccer player in Gege have surrendered to the police.

Sifiso Manyisa and Celucolo Dlamini, gave themselves up last Wednesday at the Siteki Police Station, where they were further taken to Gege for interrogation.
The pair, apparently, surrendered after they had discussed the issue with relatives at Mpolonjeni, outside Siteki, where they sought refuge after the killing.
The suspects have already appeared at the Nhlangano Magistrates Court, where they both confessed to the killing.

One of the suspects, Celucolo Dlamini, had told detectives that they only acted in self-defence after they were allegedly attacked by the late soccer player, Siyabonga Mdluli, who was apparently in the company of other friends.

Dlamini recalled that he had met Mdluli for the first time earlier on the fateful day, when he found him relaxed under a tree.
He said Mdluli was in the company of friends when they started accusing him of being involved with a certain girl from the area.
During the said encounter, Dlamini claimed Mdluli produced a knife and threatened to stab him. “I feared for my life and ran away,” he narrated to the detectives.

At the time, Dlamini, who was employed as a herdsman at a local homestead, mentioned that he was on his way to collect livestock from the local grazing land.
He said he ended up abandoning the plan and went straight back home, where he related his ordeal to his two other friends.

He told detectives that it was then that his friends decided to arm themselves with a slasher and a bushknife before they accompanied him back to the grazing land.
However, he said along the way, they came across his attackers again and a fight broke out.
