MANZINI – Despite facing the axe, some Matsapha Town Council members are set to also ‘fry’.

This is because the Commission of Inquiry into the Affairs of Matsapha Town Council has recommended that issues of alleged corrupt practices levelled against three council members should be referred to relevant authorities for investigations.

The three council members who are implicated in alleged corrupt practices are; Councillor Bongani Mamba, Councillor Musa Ndzimandze (Finance Committee Chairperson) and former Acting Corporate Services Manager (CSM) Muzi Mngomezulu.

Allegations

The commission pointed out that the allegations were made unilaterally by former Chairperson Sandlane Zwane and not in any systematic manner. The recommendations of the report are yet to be adopted. As such, its contents still remain allegations.

In the case of Councillor Mamba, the commission said the allegation was that he sought a bribe from a company that had been awarded a tracksuit tender. The commission alleged that the former acting CSM was also implicated in the same matter. The commission noted that when he appeared before it, Mamba denied the allegations but cast aspersions on Councillor Zwane to the effect that he was the man behind Swazi Secrets, an online WhatsApp group. However, it mentioned that it was later reported in one of the newspapers circulating in Eswatini that Councillor Mamba was the person behind Swazi Secrets.
