KING, RAMAPHOSA DISCUSS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES

HLANE – His Majesty the King yesterday held closed-door discussions with President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.


The two leaders met at Hlane Royal Residence following Ramaphosa’s arrival yesterday morning for a ‘working visit’.


The visit coincided with the annual marula (buganu) ceremony, where the women regiment (Lutsango) display their dance  skills before Their Majesties.
In his address at the ceremony’s dancing arena, Ramaphosa said it was important for the leaders of the two countries to ‘get together from time to time to talk about issues of importance’ to both nations.

“Our two countries are now focusing on how we can continue to grow our economies. How we can make sure that our economies create jobs for the many many, people in our two countries who are unemployed-particularly young people,” said Ramaphosa.


He revealed that in the closeddoor talks he had with His Majesty the King, they deliberated on a variety of issues which were of interest to both countries.
“As we (also) discussed with the prime minister (of Eswatini) and our ministers, we found that there is a lot we can do together,” he said.
He said the two nations could work together on issues of tourism, artificial intelligence and on information, communication and technology (ICT).

Meanwhile, in his address, His Majesty the King stated that the visit by President Ramaphosa was an indication of the good and cordial relations which exist between the two nations.
“When we met with the president, we discussed how we can grow our relations and cooperation since we are both members of SADC, SACU and the AU,” His Majesty said.
His Majesty further disclosed that they discussed economic issues, among other things.


“Nations these days are discusses economic issues because economies are ailing. No nation can prosper in isolation. All nations develop because of cooperation and assistance. These are some of the issues we discussed with the president,” His Majesty said.

His Majesty further stated that they had agreed with President Ramaphosa that the leadership of both nations should meet from time to time and also visit each other.
The King stressed that as neighbours, it was a good thing for the leadership of both countries to visit each other now and again.
President Ramaphosa arrived at King Mswati III International airport at around 10am.


He was welcomed by Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini together with cabinet ministers.
Ramaphosa was accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and State Security Minister Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba.
