MBABANE – A complete water shutdown will be experienced in Matsapha between March 9 and 23, 2019.

This will happen during the implementation of a short to medium term operation which includes integrating the network systems by the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) to ensure that the drop in reservoir levels does not affect supply to certain areas within the town.
The affected areas cover Tubungu, Police Academy, Emhlane and surrounding areas.

Customers

Eswatini Water Services Corporation Managing Director Jabulile Mashwama said the usual 48-hour notice would be given to customers before the scheduled shutdown.
Mashwama said they endeavoured to minimise the impact of water supply interruptions and where required, provide alternative water supply through stationary tanks in strategic areas.
Speaking during a press conference held at Emtfonjeni Building yesterday, Mashwama stated that a comprehensive analysis of the constraints had been conducted and subsequently a four-phase approach developed.

She said a project plan, with short to long-term deliverables, had been prepared by the corporation.
Mashwama said the implementation of the plan would ensure that the corporation was able to meet the demand and address the customer complaints which have been shared with the corporation. According to Mashwama, the approach would first address the immediate water supply challenges in Tubungu, Police Academy, Emhlane and surrounding areas. She said the corporation would upgrade its network systems to ensure that the drop in reservoir levels did not affect supply to the areas. This mitigation plan, Mashwama said, would be implemented in the late evening on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

Secondly, she said they would address water supply challenges in Nhlambeni, Masundvwini, Sigodvweni and Mobeni. Mashwama said they were already implementing a mid-term to permanent solution by increasing the storage capacity in the areas. Further, she said a three mega litre reservoir at Emathangeni in Matsapha would be completed by the end of May 2019. To improve water supply in Kwaluseni, Mfabantfu and surrounding areas, Mashwama said they would increase supply capacity by upgrading the pumping system to the Logoba reservoir. This, she said, was a project anticipated to be complete by the end of April 2019.

Lastly, she said the corporation aimed at improving the general quality of services and the growing demand for water in the Matsapha-Manzini corridor and surrounding areas. “In achieving this, the corporation is upgrading the Matsapha Water Treatment Plant to increase capacity to meet future demand this coming financial year.”

Upgrade

Mashwama said the upgrade project would tie in with the larger recently approved Manzini Intergrated Water and Sanitation project which will ensure that water is supplied to additional areas under the Mafutseni, Nhlambeni, Manzini South and Mtfongwaneni constituencies. She said government was investing close to E800 million for the project which would be concluded by 2020.
