MBABANE - Teachers claim that they were being sexually harassed by some pupils at Sibovu Primary School in Mankayane.

Sibovu Primary School female teachers have complained over alleged sexual violation by certain male pupils through tapping their buttocks and allegedly making statements that insinuate sexual advancements.
The grade that the pupils are in will not be revealed to protect them and their teachers from any discrimination and victimisation.

“Some pupils even call us on our cellphones and propose to have sexual intercourse with us.
“When we report this to the school committee, nothing is done about it,” alleged one of the affected teachers who wished to remain anonymous.
Narrating one incident, the teacher alleged that the pupils first confiscated one of the teachers’ cellphone.

She said this was done by the older pupils whose ages are estimated to be between 18 and 21 years.
The teacher further mentioned that when they reported the matter to the head teacher and school committee, no measures were taken to correct the anomaly.
She narrated that it was when one of the pupils stole one of the teachers’ cellphone and invited her to have sexual intercourse with him, that they (teachers) took it upon themselves to report the matter to the police.

Reported

“The school was doing nothing about the pupils’ acts, so we then reported the matter to the police,” said the teacher.
Moreover, the teacher mentioned that the police intervened. She said parents of the implicated pupils were brought to the school and the police talked to them. However, she said it was the only measure taken to rectify the pupils’ acts.
She added that the pupils continued with their behaviour.

The teacher said they were living in fear because the pupils’ behaviour was seemingly getting worse.
She alleged that on Tuesday, a younger scholar was violated by one of the implicated pupils, who allegedly attempted to insert a pencil into the private parts of the Grade I pupil.
She said it was a pity because the school authorities were concealing the pupils’ behaviour and this could lead to more pupils being abused.
Such allegations were never proven to be true.
