PIGG’S PEAK – “We are not going to sit back and watch our land being taken away”.

These were the words of some of the residents who are unhappy about a proposal to enclose a portion of land to make way for an agricultural project. The said farm is marked as Portion 6/932 but it is also referred to as KaBothma.

Residents there have been disputing the actual boundaries of the farm with some claiming to have lived on the property for several years.
There are hundreds of houses built there including state of the art mansions which could be demolished should the residents be evicted.

Security

Last Wednesday some of the representatives of the said farm met in the presence of police officers, officials from the Ministry of Natural as well guards from private security company, Kwekwe, which is based in Matsapha.
Kwekwe is known for some of the evictions in Malkerns after being hired by a Matsapha businessman.

It has been gathered that the farm representatives have already laid out plans of how they would enclose a portion of the farm using fencing for the purpose of initiating an agricultural project. This will mean that the activities of residents within the enclosed area will be limited.

Designated entrances to the enclosed area will be placed while security guards will be positioned within to make sure that the perimeter fence was not removed. However, this plan has left the residents furious with some of them vowing to remove the fence as soon as it would be erected.

Chief

When the area’s acting Chief Prince December was reached for comment, he referred questions to Mlondolzi Dlamini whom he said had been tasked to look into the matter. Mlondolozi is not new to land disputes and boasts of overseeing such in the past.
He said the current situation in Emvimbili should not be taken lightly as the people were very angry about it.

“They are ready to defend this land,” he said.
Dlamini said as far as they were concerned, the said land had never been a farm. He said it was not a secret that the people there were known to fight for what belonged to them, adding that this was what they would do. This publication regularly reports about cases of mob justice in the area, particularly for people accused of theft.
