When the Minister of Housing and Urban Development Prince Simelane took office, he called for an end to infighting among councillors and management of municipalities because, as a prince, he does not tolerate noise.

He urged the municipalities to put the interests of the ratepayers and the development of the towns and cities above all else.
It would appear though, that the Matsapha Town Council did not get this ministerial memo, as the mayor, councillors and council management have done a good job of out staging the Mbabane Municipality clashes between councillors and the CEO.

There is no doubt that the level of discord prevailing at Matsapha Town Council now requires the intervention of the minister, to ensure that order is restored and, as requested, that he gets his peace and quiet.

For a country crying out for constructive engagement that will bring about meaningful development in the industrial town in order to lure investors and create the much needed job opportunities, the current lot in the Matsapha Council chambers does not seem to share in this vision if their clashes are anything to go by.

The preoccupation with self was evident in the previous government and the results are the tragedy that our economy is today. We don’t need another episode of this type of administration and ratepayers deserve better than squabbles as a reward for their time and effort spent voting councillors into office.
The ratepayers are fed up and they have officially registered this disgust in a letter to council.

If the councillors will disregard the mandate bestowed upon them by the ratepayers, then we call upon the minister to consider invoking the powers he enjoys in the Urban Government Act, to dissolve council at worst.
There can be no better need to do so than when a council is forced to conduct its business at a police station.
This circus must stop!
