MBABANE – About six schools in the country recorded over 50 failures in the 2018 Junior Certificate (JC) examination.

The list includes Ngcoseni High School, which has in the past three years been making headlines following its high number of failures. As was the case even last year, social media users, especially on facebook, had a field day yesterday mocking the school’s high number of failures.

Improvement

The analysis for Ngcoseni reflects that there were 91 failures which, however, shows a slight improvement from the previous academic year where there were 97. Also making the improvement significant is the fact that this year the school had an increased number of candidates as it stood at 236 while last year it was 206. Ngcoseni High is the same school that shocked the country in 2016 after it recorded about 166 failures from 228 candidates who sat for the examination. The results were accompanied by revelations by male pupils, who claimed that they failed because their female teachers wore revealing outfits.

Efforts to get a comment from the school Head teacher, Gcinumuzi Dlamini, were unsuccessful as his cellphone rang unanswered when called just before 5pm yesterday. The rest of the schools which recorded over 50 failures include Etimphisini Central High School (53), Fundukuwela Secondary School (54) and Ekukhanyeni High School (60). Also on the list are Sitsatsaweni Secondary School (53) and Mlalatini Development Centre (130). It should be noted, however, that most of the schools with over 50 failures had many candidates who sat for the examination.
