MBABANE – Mphumuzi Mdluli believes that study groups and extra lessons is what helped him to attain 90 per cent in the Junior Certificate examination.

Mdluli said the school environment was better than home environment. “I felt that I would get a Merit since we formed study groups in preparation for the final examination. I am yet to decide whether I complete at the same school or I enrol in another school,” he said. Mdluli said he aspired to be a doctor since he was good in Mathematics and Sciences. The head teacher of the school, Macandza Mamba shared the same sentiment with the pupil. Mamba said Mdluli’s results had proved that the school, which had committed itself to improve the results, could do better.

“Mdluli has made history. No pupil has ever attained 90 per cent in this school. This shows that the new initiatives which are aimed at improving the school have yielded good results,” Mamba said. He confided that the school had since introduced early and extra classes to make sure that the syllabus was finished before time. This, he said, was to make sure that the pupils had sufficient time for revision. Apart from the early and extra classes, Mamba said the school had introduced monthly tests which were aimed at identifying the weaknesses and strengths of  the pupils. He thanked the teachers of the school, parents and the pupils for embracing the new initiatives. He said the school would not have achieved the better results had it not been for the cooperation and teamwork among the stakeholders.

The school recorded two Merits, 11 First Class passes, 53 Second Class passes and one third Class pass. There were only two failures. “There has been a great improvement in the school judging from last year’s results, where we recorded seven failures in Form III. Dropping to two failures shows that we can do better in future. We hope to attain 100 per cent pass rate by 2020,” he said happily.
