SITEKI – Yet another woman has been brutally killed, allegedly by her partner.

The body of Njabu Jele (45) was discovered with multiple stab wounds near sugar cane fields on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was employed as a Section Clerk under the Irrigation Department of Ubombo Sugar Limited.

According to the police, Jele went missing on Monday and did not report for duty on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A 33-year-old man, who is said to be a security guard at the company, stumbled upon Jele’s body, police said.

Investigators

According to sources close to police investigators, the body was found in an almost decomposed state at around noon on Wednesday.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter.
She said the body was found with multiple stab wounds, which suggests that Jele was brutally stabbed to death.

“A 35-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the death of the deceased. He is likely to appear in court tomorrow (today),” added Vilakati. It has been gathered that the suspect was married to the deceased though their marriage had hit the rocks. Sources close to police investigators confided that the deceased recently obtained a restraining order against the suspect.

Another source privy to the squabbles of the couple revealed that the two had separated and were now close to officially divorcing.
However, it could not be ascertained what may have sparked the suspected confrontation which ended with the fatal stabbing of Jele. Furthermore, details of how the murder took place could not be ascertained but some colleagues of the deceased assume that she may have been ambushed.

Jele’s family members said they were still traumatised hence they asked not to comment.
“I have got nothing to say at the moment; you can speak to the police,” said Njabu’s father, who was only identified as Babe Jele.

Violent

Sources close to police investigators confided to this publication that the suspect was allegedly violent and would occasionally assault Njabu.
In 2015, the suspect allegedly set alight a flat that had been allocated to Njabu by her employer, sources close to police investigators said. However, the source said following the incident, the couple forgave each other and Njabu reportedly went as far as making attempts to withdraw the arson charges against her partner.

Suspect

Meanwhile, immediately after the discovery of the body on Wednesday, Njabu’s colleagues pointed fingers at her husband, who is now the suspect.
As such, police reportedly tried to contact him but he was reportedly unreachable through his mobile phone.

Until his arrest yesterday, he had been reported to be on the run but he was eventually apprehended and charged with murder.
On another note, Ubombo Sugar management confirmed that Njabu was employed by the company.

Njabu’s daughter, identified as Khulile, also confirmed her mother’s death.
She, however, said she couldn’t give further details regarding the incident because she was still at work.
“Yes, the incident happened and we were not expecting this. Unfortunately, I can’t talk now. Please call me later as I am still at work,” she said.
