MBABANE – What appeared to be an easy way of making extra cash has turned out to be fraud for some emaSwati.

Information gathered from the victims was to the effect that the unsuspecting people were drawn into joining a pyramid scheme which was operated by an unknown woman in a WhatsApp group.

The administrator of the group is known to this publication but cannot be named because she has not been charged with any offence.
The group was known as Beeraffri Reloaded and had a bank account at the First National Bank.

In an interview with one of the victims, Wami Tsabedze, he said he was enticed to join the pyramid scheme after his colleagues informed him about the easy way of making profit through a short-term investment.
Tsabedze said through the assistance of his colleagues, he joined the group, after he was convinced that it was authentic.

He said the administrator attracted the majority of unsuspecting people through adverts which circulated in the group.
“She posted two categories which she termed as PH (Please help) and GH (Get Help). By the PH she meant the money that one should invest while the GH meant the bonuses,” said Tsabedze.

Tsabedze claimed that the administrator advertised some specials where she informed the members of the group that they could make up to 150 per cent bonuses through short-term investments.

He said he was among those who targeted 50 per cent profit with his E1 000.
He said the members of the group received E1 500 in their bank accounts, something which gave then hope that the scheme was authentic.

Tsabedze said the administrator allegedly posted another advert informing the beneficiaries about another chance to get 100 per cent bonus on condition that they invested more than half of the their profits.
