MBABANE – Former Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Jabulile Mashwama, has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC).

Ironically, the Board of Directors at EWSC that confirmed Mashwama into the new position, was appointed by the erstwhile minister while she was still in office. This is the same Board that has recommended her as the managing director of the corporation.
The appointment is with effect from December 1, 2018.

Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Peter Bhembe, who is the former MD at EWSC, confirmed that Mashwama had been appointed into the position.
Bhembe cleared the perception that the Board was not objective, adding that he was pleased with the selection process.
The concerns regarding Mashwama’s appointment as EWSC Managing Director stem from the fact that she had been part of the previous Cabinet, and there might have been a role she played in the appointment of the corporation’s Board.

The minister congratulated the former legislator for her appointment, wishing her and the staff well in executing their duties.
He said the Board had been taught about issues of Corporate Governance and nothing contrary to the norm had been practiced.

According to Bhembe, Mashwama was entitled to apply for any job which she found appropriate in the country.
He said while Mashwama could be viewed as a former politician, she was a standing professional in her own right and was without reservation their preferred candidate.
Bhembe said Mashwama held a MBA from Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Eswatini.
“She brings with her a wealth of experience from both the private and public sector, as well as wide international and global exposure,” said Bhembe.

He said both the former minister’s experience and education made them privileged to have her join the EWSC because of the value she will undoubtedly add to the team.
