MANZINI – A teacher’s job is on the line for being a polling officer during the 2018 national elections.

Currently, the teacher has already spent over a month at home as she was allegedly turned back from school on September 29, 2018.
This is contained in a letter dated October 8, 2018, which the teacher from Entandweni Primary School wrote to the Lubombo Regional Education Officer (REO) Douglas Mthupha, Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) and the head teacher of the school.

In the letter, the teacher alleged that on September 27, 2018, the incumbent officer allegedly sent one of her colleagues to tell her to leave class. She alleged that took place while she was in the middle of teaching.

Thereafter, the teacher alleged that she then took it upon herself to approach the head teacher to confirm the message from her colleague and the incumbent officer allegedly responded to the affirmative.

Undesirable

“She further stated that my presence was undesirable in the school. She explained that this was because I was now an employee of the EBC, hence I should go report there,” reads part of the letter.
According to the teacher, as a result of the incident, she allegedly spent two days behind classrooms as she was told that she was not welcomed even in the staffroom.

She alleged that this came about after she had reported to the head teacher earlier in the month about her temporary appointment as a polling officer of the national elections by the EBC, something she believes agitated the headmistress’ attitude to be allegedly hostile.
Furthermore, the educator alleged that whenever she reported for work after engagement by the EBC either for training, special voting and voting among other things, the head teacher would be allegedly hostile.
