MANZINI – A suspect in connection with the brutal murder of a woman who died after her throat was slit has been identified and is now on the police wanted list.

According to Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the suspect has been identified as Machawe Ngwenya of Nhlotjeni, under Mahlangatsha Inkhundla in the Manzini region.

Vilakati said police investigations on the murder of Nomvula Mlambo (23), which took place on Wednesday morning, suggested that Ngwenya, who was a neighbour to the deceased, was connected to the incident.

Vilakati urged the suspect to surrender himself to the nearest police station to face his charge(s).  She said they were working with the woman’s relatives and community members in the matter and there was no way he could evade the long arm of the law.

On another note, she said members of the public who may have any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect should contact acting Manzini Regional Crime Branch Officer (RCBO) Sipho Methula at 7621 8045 or Mankayane Desk Officer Inspector Bheki Madlopha at 7603 2658. Alternatively, Vilakati said people could call the police emergency line 999/9.

It was around 10am on Wednesday when Mlambo, who had been sent by her grandmother to a nearby neighbourhood care point (NCP) when she met her killer. Witnesses alleged that the killer just slit her throat open without arguing with her and bolted away.
Meanwhile, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) is looking for a missing woman, Ntombikayise Hlandze (31) of Nkwene. Information gathered is that Hlandze was last seen on last Friday when leaving her place of residence.
