ESWATINI MOBILE INVESTS MILLIONS ON EXPANSION

MBABANE – In its quest to deliver a First World network, Eswatini Mobile has invested millions on network expansion.

The company’s Chief Technical Officer Wandile Mtshali made the announcement yesterday saying an expansion of its network coverage and quality improvements would be carried out over the next three months.  He said the company was embarking on a project that would address key network coverage gaps as well and improve network quality. “For Eswatini Mobile to continue delivering a First World Network, it is essential that our valued customers experience the best voice call quality and the best internet connection,” Mtshali said. 

Even though he did not state the exact figure, Mtshali said tens of millions of Emalangeni would be spent on the company’s network expansion needs. To date, the telecommunications company has about 100 base stations across the country and providing network coverage to about 62 per cent of the population. The Eswatini Mobile CTO mentioned that currently, network coverage was concentrated along the Mbabane – Manzini corridor and all cities and towns in the country. “Phase one of the network expansion project will increase the capacity of the network in Mbabane, Ezulwini, Matsapha and Manzini, focusing on the CBDs and residential areas. 
“Our customers will experience a significant improvement in internet speed, which will also enable the company to ease on the limitations of downloads and uploads,” he added.

Elaborating, he stated that the second phase of the project would see the of construction   of additional base stations across the country and that this would result in improved network coverage allowing above 75 per cent of the population to have access to the Eswatini Mobile network. “2G, 3G and 4G base stations will be constructed in the major towns such as Nhlangano, Simunye, Piggs Peak, Siteki and the major roads such as MR3 as part of this extension.We do expect that the intended expansion exercise, will address the different challenges that Eswatini Mobile customers have been experiencing in these areas,” he explained. He expressed excitement at the fact that in the next three months customers will be delighted about Eswatini Mobile as they will experience a real First World network.
