MBABANE – An international trip ended badly for Eswatini TV station CEO Bongani Gcokosiyancinca Dlamini when his car was stolen at a South African hotel on Tuesday.

Dlamini had left the car, a Toyota Dakar registered KSD 953 BH valued at around E600 000, parked at Mercure Hotel in Randburg, Johannesburg, and flown to Namibia to attend a meeting of SADC broadcasters.

The CEO had attended the Namibia meeting alongside another one in South Africa in the company of the national television station’s Corporate Affairs Manager Mncedzisi Mayisela and Chief Financial Officer Kenneth Maziya.

Impeccable sources told Swazi News that all three senior executives were informed of the vehicle theft upon their return to the hotel on Wednesday.
The company is the property of the television station and was allocated to the CEO as part of his contract package.
Mayisela confirmed the loss of the vehicle and said they were still shocked by what had happened.

He said when they arrived at the hotel on Wednesday from Namibia, he noticed that the car was no longer at the parking space they had left it.
“I immediately saw this because I am the one who parked the vehicle there. But we never thought it had been stolen, instead, we assumed the hotel management had towed and parked it somewhere else,” Mayisela said.

He said soon after their arrival, they were called to a meeting by the hotel management who then informed them that the car had been stolen.
“They showed us CCTV footage of how the car was stolen. In the footage, the thieves are seen driving into the hotel premises in a car that appeared to be a ‘dubai’ Honda Fit. Two men alight from the ‘dubai’ and head for the CEO’s vehicle which they fiddle with for approximately 15 minutes until they were able to open its doors and got the engine going,” the senior executive said.
