MANZINI – A Zionist taximan escaped death by a whisker after he was kidnapped, stabbed and further bundled into a car boot by five unknown men.

Michael Tsela (58) had been waiting at the Manzini taxi rank, near Tandoori Restaurant on Tuesday night, when an unknown man approached him and requested that he take him to St Michael’s where he had to pick his two children.

“It was already past 7pm and dark. Since I am a Zionist, I could sense that the man was going to bring me trouble. After he had jumped into the vehicle, another man jumped in too, at the back and that was when I panicked.

Frightened

“I was frightened as I had made it a rule not to assist male customers, especially during the night. I drove through town and before I even got to St Michaels, near William Pitcher, all the doors were opened while the vehicle was in motion,” Tsela said.

He revealed that the doors were opened by more strangers, who were armed with guns and Rambo knives.
Tsela said the robbers immediately ordered him to stop at a secluded place and get out of the vehicle.

“I heard a voice ordering me to fight and not get off the vehicle. the men got angry and tried to pull me out of the car, however, I refused to let go of the steering wheel. They then started assaulting me with fists, kicks and also the butt of the pistols.
“They eventually managed to pull me out. At the time, they had stabbed me in the head with a Rambo knife and I was bleeding profusely but the voice kept on telling me to continue fighting,” Tsela said.

He said he fought with the five men who used a cable to tie him  up before they forcefully bundled him inside the boot of his own car. Tsela added that while into the boot, he lay in a pool of blood and his clothes were soaked in same.

“I was very weak but when I tried kicking the boot, the door got opened and this infuriated the robbers, who stopped the car and continued assaulting me. They closed it once again and threatened to kill me and said I was being stubborn.

“When I kicked the boot for the second time, I managed to escape, and ran into the thick bushes nearby. When they noticed that I had escaped, they jumped off the car and went looking for me. I hid near a tree and prayed to God, fortunately they later drove off and left me,” Tsela also revealed.

He further said the unknown men made off with his cash (E500), his cellphone and the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Altis.
