SITEKI – Fear has gripped the tiny community of Lugongolweni in the outskirts of Siteki town, following the discovery of a dead body with multiple injuries.
The body was discovered on Monday evening in an abandoned house near a soccer field, situated near the Siteki/Mhlumeni Public Road.

According to the police, a man who was walking home stumbled upon the body, as he went past the abandoned house which has no roofing.
“The deceased is a male who is estimated to be between the ages of 28 and 30,” said Police Deputy Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Phindile Vilakati.

Community members who saw the body told this reporter that the man may have died from heavy bleeding.
Legs
“He had gaping wounds on the head and cuts on the legs. It seemed as if he was stabbed and was also assaulted heavily,” alleged a community member who saw the body.

At the scene, there were visible bloodstains and the clothes of the deceased were also soaked in blood.
Police wouldn’t say whether there were body parts which were missing but people who saw the body confirmed that there were no missing parts.
“All we can say is that we are still investigating. Only doctors can discuss the condition of the body,” said Vilakati, the police deputy spokesperson.
She hinted that an autopsy would be conducted so to determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, Vilakati appealed to the public to come forward with any information that may uncover how the man was killed.
She further urged the individual(s) who may have had a hand in the death of the man to hand themselves over to the police because ‘the long arm of the law would eventually catch up with them’.

Vilakati also mentioned that the identity of the deceased remained unknown, hence his next of kin had not been identified.
“The deceased was wearing a pair of navy blue jeans and a maroon T-shirt. He was also wearing another white t-shirt written CARP. He has an average height; not tall and not very short. His complexion is dark but not very dark,” said Vilakati when describing the deceased.

She said members of the public who may have information about the circumstances of the death of the man or knowledge of his relatives may contact the police emergency toll free line; 999 or Siteki police at 2343 4222.
She said they could also contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Mkhatshwa at 7655 7244.
On another note, unconfirmed reports doing rounds claim the deceased is a Mozambican national who was a hawker around Siteki town.

Verify

However, police said they were still to verify this information.
In an almost similar case, during the festive season last year, a badly injured body with some detached body parts was discovered next to a road at Maphungwane area near Siteki.

The body was pulled from underneath a vehicle by two young men who had just alighted from the vehicle.
Subsequently, police arrested the driver of the vehicle and charged him with culpable homicide and various traffic offences.
