KAMFISHANE – A kombi driver tragically met his death after being hit with a pot lid behind the ears yesterday morning.

The 31-year-old Mfanuzongisiza Shongwe, aka Siza, was struck once behind the ears, with a three-legged pot lid which was thrown by a man who was acting strangely on the day.

It is understood that the troublesome man offered resistance as community members tried to capture him, after allegedly causing trouble for occupants of a certain homestead situated around Kamfishane yesterday morning.

The tragedy eventually struck shortly before 7am, following the pot lid strike that stunned the whole community.
Community members were jolted from their sleep early in the morning after a scuffle broke out between occupants of a certain homestead and the man who was giving them a hard time.

A resident said it all started when the man barged into the homestead on the previous night, apparently from a drinking spree, carrying a piece of meat (cow intestines or insides).

Fire

Given the very low temperatures on the night, the man, who is also related to the family, was alleged to have started a fire in front of a detached kitchen, in order to keep himself warm and further roast his piece of meat.

As the family members were used to the man behaving strangely, especially when he had taken one too many, they simply ignored him.
The man reportedly spent the whole night outside by the fire and would occasionally make noise while talking aloud to himself.
The family apparently did not pay attention to all that, given the man’s history of being rowdy on occasions when his state of sobriety was in doubt.

However, things took a different twist early in the morning after some school-going children encountered resistance from the man when they wanted to warm bathing water on the fire which was made by the man.
As the children tried to negotiate for space where they could put their water containers, the man refused to cooperate and instead drove the children away from the fire.

When family members moved in to assist the children, the man became violent, and started vandalising property.
This resulted in the family seeking assistance from neighbours.
The plan was to capture the man and hand him over to the police because the family was beginning to suspect that something wasn’t alright with him.
