MANZINI – A local nursery, which employed a man who allegedly raped a five-year-old girl, has been exposed by one of the parents on social media.

*Wendy has alleged that her daughter was sexually abused at the preschool situated in the city. She voiced her concern and revealed that the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) was not coming forward or assisting her on the rape incident, despite reporting it on April 12, 2018. “Bekunene, mangabe kukhona lofundzisa umntfwana wakhe loyi ntfombatane e ... Pre School ngicela mane mawumugeza umntfwana mtali uyibuke i phenti yakhe,” - loosely translated, ‘If there is anyone who has enrolled a female child at this certain preschool, I would like you to take note of her underwear when bathing her,” Wendy said in her Facebook post. “Three months ago my daughter was raped by an employee who cleans and maintains the school and to my surprise, the person is still employed at the place and the police have literally failed to assist me in the matter,” Wendy further alleged in her Facebook post.

The aggrieved mother added that it took the police a month to eventually get the medical doctor’s report at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital. She alleged this was after she had laid complaints with the senior officers at the Manzini Police Station. “I eventually took my traumatised child to the Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGAA) for counselling as I had lost hope in the justice system. I am sharing this story as I would not like another person to experience what I did. Therefore, if your child is enrolled at this school, be on the lookout. this is because even the school administration there is not interested in investigating the incident or acting on the allegations about their employee,” Wendy added.

When interviewed on the incident, Wendy revealed that she took shocking pictures of the child and her underwear on the day she was allegedly sexually abused. She mentioned that she discovered about the alleged rape incident when she was just about to bath her child on April 11. “I had just knocked off from work when I discovered that my child had been acting strangely. She refused to do her schoolwork or anything and her conduct made me suspicious. “When I took off her underwear, I found a weird discharge which had some dry blood, which proved that she had been sexually abused and the abuse incident had occurred earlier on the same day,” Wendy said. She revealed that she was shocked by the discovery and decided to contact her sister, who is a teacher by profession. Wendy said her sister advised that the child be taken to the hospital, for a medical check-up and to further confirm if she was indeed sexually abused.

“She also advised me not to wash the underwear, at the time I broke down and cried, as the whole episode was traumitising. I went to the police station with the child to get a medical form, then headed to the RFM Hospital. “When I got there, my child was examined, treated and given medication which she took for a period of a month and it was confirmed that she had been raped. I returned to the police station to record statements and afterwards, I was ordered to get into another office where I found a female police officer who had a negative attitude towards me and told me they still had not gone to get the medical report from the RFM Hospital,”
