MANZINI – A hairdresser had to be rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital after she was severely assaulted with kicks, fists and further bitten in the leg by the father of her child.

Mancoba Magagula (30) of Mhlaleni was arrested after he committed the assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm offence. It was gathered in court that Magagula was allegedly demanding clothes he had bought for the complainant, Muntu Dlamini (32) and their child, who is still a toddler, when the incident occurred. Statements submitted in court stated that the accused was allegedly bitter over the fact that the complainant had ended their love relationship and moved on with another man.

“When he came to my rented flat on the day, he grabbed and assaulted me with the fists and kicks and further bit me in the legs, all this occurred in full view of other members of the public, who could not even come to my rescue. “My former boyfriend comes to the house and each time he does so, he is alerted by a woman, one Hlengiwe Shabangu, who stays within the same compound, and who is his spy. On the day of the incident, he assaulted me to a point where he wanted to pluck my eye out,” Dlamini alleged in the statements. Police officers revealed in statements that the suspect assaulted the complainant for refusing to surrender clothing that he had bought for her and the child. “He also threatened to kill me and further forcefully took my cellphone. I am now addicted to alcohol because of his abusive conduct,” Dlamini alleged in her statements. Magagula, who made a court appearance before Magistrate Mthokozisi Dlamini, was remanded in custody until July 19, 2018 pending the setting of his trial date.
