SIPHOCOSINI – At least 45 emaSwati have converted to the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) under the leadership of Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi of Zimbabwe.

This group converted over a period of six weeks from last month. Costa Magazo, who has made it possible for the church to come to Eswatini, through his wife Zanele Dube-Magazo, said they managed to touch the lives of 15 people before the big service yesterday, which saw 30 people joining the church. Magazo said this was the sixth week in the Kingdom and they arranged the big service through the Siphocosini Royal Kraal, which gave them permission. He said their intention was to build a church and a training centre locally which would house; welding, boiler making, carpentry, plumbing and dress-making lessons. Magazo said the project would kick-start as soon as they are allocated land by the Siphocosini Royal Kraal and hope to complete it soon as they had builders within the church.

According to Magazo, he received a call from their head office in Pretoria that instructed him to start a branch in the country. “I was told that through my liSwati wife, who had a vision of the church before we joined, it I could be the direct link to Eswatini.” He said immediately he received the call, he related the news to his wife and they started making arrangements through their mother-in-law who was based at Siphocosini. Magazo said it was his mother in-law who managed to arrange an appointment for them with the Siphocosini elders. “During the first week of June, we arranged our first trip to the country and we went straight to the chief who received us very well,” Magazo said. He said they related their intentions to the chief; that of a training centre and a church and they were given the go-ahead to do as God had spoken. Following the meeting with the chief, Magazo said they started arranging for the big Sunday service.

He said the services began on Friday until yesterday, which is why the numbers were impressive. Elder Fanuel Nyama said it was the first time they set foot in Eswatini through the invitation from the local branch. Nyama said they had been received well in the country and it had been the first but would definitely not be the last time. He said the hospitality they had received showed a lot about the people of the kingdom and they would definitely preach about its goodness. Nyama said they had a lot of good things to say about the kingdom, including the peace of this country.
