MANZINI – The issue of mob justice over suspected ritual killings at Mafutseni has taken another twist as an arson attack threat has been reported to the police.

A source close to the matter said this was after a group of men drove their car into one of the homesteads in the area on Wednesday night and were heard talking about setting the home alight.

According to the source, the affected homestead is situated close to where a 16-year-old boy was grabbed by three men who then cut his throat in an attempt to kill him.

Sleep

He alleged that family members were in their house preparing to sleep when they heard a car parking in the yard with its headlamps bright. He said afterwards, some of the men allegedly alighted from the car and it was then that they heard them talking about setting the home alight.

“Out of fear, the family members sneaked the children out of the house and ran with them to one of the neighbouring homes where they sought refuge and called the police,” the source alleged.

Meanwhile, the source said there was another family member who remained behind with the intention of identifying the men.
He alleged that later on, one of the men was heard saying they were in a wrong homestead as it was not the one of the suspected ritual killer and the others concurred with him.

Thereafter, the source said the men allegedly boarded the car and left. Luckily, the source alleged that before long, the police arrived and a search for the car began.
He said information they got in the morning was that the police were successful in their search as they got hold of the vehicle and the men.
