MBABANE – Will Members of Parliament be paid their salaries until October?

This follows that the King announced on Wednesday that Parliament was dissolved and would leave office on June 30. Precedence has been that MPs are paid until the end of their five-year term.

According to a source, who will not be mentioned, MPs started working in October 2013 and had a five-year ‘contract’ with government.
The source said ordinarily they had to be paid until October this year, as that was when their five years of service would have elapsed.
The source made an example of agreements between MPs and banks in terms of loans, he stated that deductions were spread evenly across five years ending in October.

According to the source, this was nothing new as it was the same case even in 2013.
He stated that MPs who left office during that year were paid even after Parliament was dissolved, until their five-year term elapsed.
the source added that this was regardless of that they will not be in office during that period.

This follows that His Majesty the King announced that parliamentarians would vacate office on June 30.
“Although they will be getting their salaries, they will not be receiving allowances, including constituency allowances because they will not be performing duties related to them,” the source explained.
