PIGG’S PEAK – A man who allegedly drove off in his friend’s car for a joyride ended up discovering that this was a big mistake.

The vehicle he allegedly drove off  in, crashed into a tree near a place known as Enhlangotsini then suddenly caught fire.
The model of the vehicle could not be ascertained but it appeared to have been red in colour.

It is alleged that the man took the vehicle without the friend realising that the  vehicle had been taken, but along the way, he allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle was said to have remained at an unidentified place in Pigg’s Peak while his vehicle was allegedly driven away. There were fears that the driver or a passenger may have been burnt inside the vehicle but this was not the case.
The driver managed to alight from the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.

Emergency officers from the Fire Department eventually put out the flames after they were called to the accident scene.
This was worsened by the presence of nearby trees as well as the dry grass which also fuelled the flames.

The accident is said to have happened on Friday night, according to eyewitnesses.Empty beer bottles were also found near the vehicle which was later towed away at about 4pm on Saturday.

Superintendent Khulani Mamba, the Police Chief Information and Communications Officer, confirmed the incident.
He said the driver was not burnt in the vehicle.
