VUVULANE – Government has spent a whopping E40 million on trying to develop a town that does not have ratepayers or bona fide residents.

However, some of the about 100 people who live in Vuvulane are not convinced that government has already used up E40 million in developing the town.
At a face value, they argued that government might have spent not more than E100 000 on tarring less than three streets on the land measuring 120 hectares.

The land on which the town lies belongs to government.
According to the designs of the town, there are about 50 roads to be developed. It looks like a long way to go as the road leading to the offices of the Vuvulane Town Board is dusty, yet the aforementioned amount of money has already been used.

One company was awarded a tender of E10 million to give the few roads a facelift. This was said by a government employer, who was privy to information pertaining to the road project.
The residents even laughed off the idea that their town’s infrastructural development could cost E58.9 million in total. They insistently argued that the development was not proportionate with the current actual expenditure of E40 million.
“You are not telling the truth that government has spent E40 million on developing the area. Do you see any development here?” one of the pupils of Vuvulane High School said.

how much did government utilised?

His friends shared similar sentiments that the magnitude of the development was not proportionate with the amount of money already utilised.
It is reflected in the government financial books seen by this newspaper that government actually spent E40 million on Vuvulane Township, as of March 31, 2017.
In fact, the actual total expenditure for Vuvulane is E40 189 000. It was estimated that government would have spent E43 million by March 31, 2018.
