KING AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE IN MANAGEMENT

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – His Majesty the King has become the first recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the Shih Chien University in Taiwan.


President of the university Dr Michael Chen described this honour as well deserved for a leader who, among other things, had stood up to the international community in calling for the participation of Taiwan in international agencies.  The university marks its 60th anniversary this year.


The honorary doctorate was bestowed upon the king during a graduation ceremony, that also saw Prince Buhlebenkhosi graduate in International Business and Trade.
Presenting the citation, President Chen said he was honoured to offer the first honorary doctorate to His Majesty King Mswati III, who is renowned for his prominent achievements as king of the Kingdom of Eswatini since his Coronation in 1986.


“On many years, he has extended sovereign friendship to the Republic of China, Taiwan and provided staunch support for Taiwan’s protestation and inclusion in international organisations.
“In his capacity as Chairperson of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) and chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), he has been fully committed to regional integration and global peace.

His Majesty deeply humbled by recognition


“In recognition and appreciation of his remarkable leadership and profound contribution, Shih Chien University Confers this Honorary Doctorate upon His Majesty King Mswati III given at Taipei, Taiwan on the 9th day of June 2018,’’ said Dr Chen. 


Accepting the honour, His Majesty said he was deeply humbled by the recognition, describing it as worthy to be cherished.
Inspired by this, the king dedicated the honour to the people of Eswatini.


“I receive this award on behalf of the entire Eswatini population that has played a critical role in supporting the country’s leadership in its endeavour to bring about meaningful development.
“This will inspire us to continue without ceasing, to improve the lives of our people, to not only impact the kingdom, but the region, the continent and the international community at large.”
His Majesty went on to applaud Shih Chien University, and all the other institutions of higher learning in Taiwan, for admitting foreign students and providing them with high quality education.


“Currently, there are over 250 EmaSwati students at various institutions here, who are acquiring first world education. We look forward to their return home to make a meaningful impact on our development agenda.”
He described Taiwan is a shining example of investing in education, as it has very few natural resources but has managed to become a force to be reckoned with on the global stage.


“Therefore, let us all remember this important achievement and never stop learning, as education is a lifelong process,” he said.
He further reiterated the country’s commitment to supporting Taiwan gain recognition in the international agencies, as he believes the country has an important role to play in shaping the future of this world.
