MATSAPHA – Come July 2018, the country will be able to ship goods to the United States of America (USA) through AGOA.

This was revealed by USA Embassy’s Mich Coker during a site visit at Fashion International, where they inspected a mobile clinic for Matsapha residents and textile workers.

Coker said as an embassy they were aware that when the country the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) benefits in January 2015, a number of textile workers became jobless. He said some of them went to seek jobs out of the country while others ended up being sex workers, something which was a problem in the country because it spreads sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS among other illnesses. Coker said they were happy that the Government of Eswatini  finally provided the required documents to the USA on April 27.

“The USA government is currently completing its review of those documents, ‎and we expect an apparel visa to be issued in the coming weeks.”
He said after the review of the documents, the country will be put on a 30-day waiting period before getting the apparel via to allow it to export goods to the USA through the Act.
Coker said they hoped that the readmission of the country back to AGOA will go a long way in addressing the issue of unemployment in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
He then challenged the Matsapha Town Council to be ready to accommodate people who would be hired in the textile sector when the country gets the apparel visa from the USA.
