MBABANE – Despite challenges, over 10 000 people have already registered for this year’s upcoming national elections.

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Public Relations Officer Mbonisi Bhembe, revealed the numbers yesterday during an interview.

Registration started on Sunday and encountered challenges which included network failure and registration kits not working properly. Bhembe said although they did not have all the numbers due to network challenges, the information they had was that over 10 000 had registered countrywide. This was at around 4pm yesterday.

Bhembe narrated that they might not have information from some stations due to network challenges. He said data from such stations did not reflect in their system and would render the figure not a true reflection of the real figures.
“Right now we have over 10 000 registered people,” Bhembe said.

He stated that yesterday their focus was more on identifying challenges in the various registration centres. He said they wanted to see whether registration centres would report any today, and by the time of compiling this report, he did not have any bad report. He said positive feedback did not help them much as they needed to know which challenges needed to be addressed.
