MBABANE –After all has been said and done, Municipal Council of Mbabane Chief Executive Officer Gideon Mhlongo has officially been suspended.

The CEO was served with the letter of his suspension on Monday by his council.
Yesterday, he confirmed to this newspaper that he had been served with the suspension letter, but said he did not understand why exactly he had been suspended.

“Yes, I received it later on Monday. Based on what I received, it is not clear and it has no specifics, so I have handed it over to my legal team,” Mhlongo said.

Mhlongo was asked by this reporter if he understood clearly the main reason for his suspension, plus its terms and conditions.
Before his confirmation, former Mayor Sikhatsi Dlamini was asked to confirm if indeed he had officially served Mhlongo with the suspension letter something which he refused to do.

“That is a personal matter, so I will not be able to comment on it. These are issues that I am not supposed to discuss with the media, so I would advise that you talk to the CEO himself,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini’s term as mayor ended on Monday and the elections for his successor are scheduled for this morning, where it would be determined if his fellow councillors would vote him back to the position or would choose someone else.

The confirmation by Mhlongo has put an end to the confusion as his suspension has been nothing but an unconfirmed issue, which he himself denied knowledge of.

In our Sunday edition, The Times Sunday, Mhlongo said he was shocked after reading about the suspension without being served with any letter to that effect.

He was reacting to an article carried by one of the local weekend newspapers to the effect that the city’s councillors had resolved to suspend him with immediate effect.

He said what shocked him was that there had been no recent communication from the council, except for when they acknowledged receipt of his proposal for a contract renewal at the end of March.
