MBABANE – Joy for a travelling Botswana entourage was turned into misery after their bus was involved in an accident with six other vehicles on Thursday evening.

The accident, which left two people seriously injured, occurred along the notorious Malagwane Hill at around 7pm.
Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that the bus experienced mechanical problems while descending the Malagwane Hill towards Manzini.

“The driver lost control of the vehicle which resulted in the bus crashing into six cars.”
In fact, Vilakati said the bus hit one car from behind and a pile-up resulted.

“The people in the bus were from Botswana. They are here for social games.”
Dumsani Silolo, an employee of the Swaziland Water Services Corporation (SWSC), who was in one of the vehicles involved in the accident, said the bus hit a car which was behind them.

Speaking in an interview with journalists from Swazi TV, Silolo narrated that they had passed the bus at a police check point near the Cabinet Offices.

“After driving for a few metres, we heard a loud bang. We thought it was a huge rock falling on top of our car. The next thing, we realised that our vehicle was overturning. I do not recall what happened thereafter,” he said while being interviewed at the Mbabane Government Hospital.

Swaziland Electricity Company Corporate Communications Manager Sifiso Dhlamini confirmed that the Batswana were in the country to partake in social games.
