MBABANE – Mbabane socialite Menzi Gama, popularly known for the Gauzen clothing brand, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 28-year- old woman.

Gama (30), a merchandise owner, is alleged to have committed the offence at Mahwalala in Mbabane on March 25, 2018.
He is alleged to have raped the complainant after a drinking spree.

The name of the complainant has been withheld as she is a survivor of alleged sexual abuse.
Gama was arrested by members of the Royal Swaziland Police based in Mbabane on Tuesday.
According to his charge sheet, during the commission of the offence, he did not use a condom and in the process exposed the complainant to sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) and HIV/AIDS.

Through his attorney Linda Dlamini of Mabila Attorneys, Gama yesterday filed an urgent bail application at the High Court.
In his application for bail, he denied to have committed the offence.

“This is a fabrication made up by the complainant as she consented to the sexual intercourse,” submitted Gama.
He alleged that on that particular morning, he went to Solanis Shisanyama in Mbabane and was from Pub ’N Grill in Ezulwini.
Gama told the court that when he arrived at Solanis, the time was 4am.

“When I got there with my sober driver, one Smicey, I found the complainant whom I have known for three years, sitting together with her friends who were all known to me,” said Gama.

He claimed that the complainant and her friends invited him to join their table where they were all enjoying alcoholic beverages.
According to Gama, they continued enjoying drinks and at around 6am, he told them that he needed to go to bed. He alleged that at that time he felt he could not continue with the drinking spree and he requested Smicey to drive him home.
