EARTH HOUR DAY, TODAY

This is the day we have been waiting for! The Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) is inviting the nation to celebrate with them the Earth Hour which is commemorated each year.  The event will be held at House on Fire today. 


 The day will begin with a walk Morning Green walk which will begin at Mahlanya Market at nine in the morning.
Earth Hour partners, university students and the public will be collecting general waste along the road to House on Fire.
There will be a band and drum majorettes who will be leading the entourage. The participants will assemble for a short briefing at the parking lot opposite House on Fire.


Later during the day at 5pm the main Earth Hour event will begin  at House on Fire, and gates  will open at 3pm.
There will be numerous stalls for our different partners, which the public will be able to visit and see what each stall has to showcase.
The official Earth Hour event will start at 6pm, there will be speeches and entertainment. The symbolic switch off will take place at 8:30pm-9:30pm.  SEC will be monitoring power utilisation during the hour.


The Entertainment for the event will be rendered by Amanda Mo, Sandz, Sisonkhe Drama Group and DJ Mix Mash.
SEC is pleading with the public to voluntary switch off all lights, in honour of the plan and observe the Earth Hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
SEC‘s target is to save 15MGW of electricity.
Swazi citizens are requested to voluntary switch off all non-essential lights, electrical appliances; geysers, stoves before 8:30pm.
The public is advised to use alternative sources of lighting, have a braai, have candle lit dinner, cook before 8:30pm no cooking until 9:40pm. Only leave lights for security reasons during the hour
Beyond Earth Hour, SEC says let there be a sustainable lifestyle and protect the planet consciously everyday beyond the hour.
