MBABANE - What could possibly be more traumatising than burying your child with their head missing?

This is exactly what Gabisile Shabani’s parents will have to go through. Shabani is the 13-year-old girl with albinism, who was allegedly kidnapped by three armed men and killed together with her 15-month-old nephew‚ Nkosikhona Ngwenya. They lived in Vosman, near Witbank, South Africa.

A local traditional healer, Thokozani Msibi, has been arrested in connection with the murder which the South African Police Service (SAPS) has labelled as muti killing. Msibi (32) has been charged with two counts of murder,  two counts of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and violation of a corpse.

An impeccable source said Shabani was found with her head and breast missing. The SAPS previously said they were still waiting for post-mortem results to determine if the children had been mutilated.
It was reported last week that Shabani’s family believed that the alleged killers had been stalking her for a number of days subsequent to her kidnapping. The children were kidnapped on January 28, and their bodies, which were at an advanced state of decomposition, were discovered last week.

It was reported that one of the corpses was found buried in a shallow grave in Cullinan, while the other was found in a swamp on the N4 en route to Pretoria. The family also said they believed that Ngwenya was kidnapped after the gunmen mistook him for his cousin, who also has albinism.

Corporate Communications Officer of the Mpumalanga Province SAPS, Brigadier Leornard Hlathi, confirmed that the child had some body parts missing.
However, he refused to divulge further details on the matter as he said their investigations would be jeopardised.
“We had uncovered during our investigations that there were some body parts missing from the child. We are still discovering more elements as we continue with our investigations,” he said.
Hlathi further confirmed that they had held two more men for questioning regarding the matter.
