MBABANE – The saying, ‘you strike a woman, you strike a rock’, is expected to become a reality as women are preparing to march in protest over the sidelining of Minister Winnie Magagula from Parliament business.

The proposed march is being organised by women who are members of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) under the gender section.
The women are mobilising others from all corners of the country to march in unison tomorrow to the Deputy Prime Minister, Paul Dlamini’s Office, where they would demand answers on why the minister has been sidelined.

Magagula is the Minister of Labour and Social Security.
Dlamini has all fingers pointing at him as he was the one who was seen talking to the minister before she disappeared during the official opening of the 5th Session of the 10th Parliament last Friday.

In an interview with TUCOSWA’s Simangele Mmema, she said they frowned upon the decision that had been taken by government and said it violated the Constitution of Swaziland.
“Our leaders seem to be indicating right but then turn left yet truth is that the country needs the contribution of both men and women to move forward,” she said.
She mentioned that the incident had proven that women were discriminated against in the country, something which she said infringed on their rights.

According to Mmema, the decision to chuck the minister out was not only  embarrassing the country in the international sphere but was also a sign that women were not considered as people who would play a role in the development of the kingdom.
