KALANGA – It may not have been an official state funeral but the burial ceremony of slain businessman and football administrator Victor Gamedze was exceptionally special.

Gamedze was laid to rest at his parental homestead at KaLanga near Siteki on Sunday morning, following his brutal assassination about a week ago.  Apart from the other unique features of the burial ceremony, the hearse carrying the body of Gamedze was escorted by the police on its way to his parental homestead at KaLanga.

A convoy of vehicles accompanying the hearse from Mbabane Burial undertakers arrived at Gamedze’s parental homestead at exactly 8.05pm on Saturday. In the forefront of the convoy it was a police vehicle driven by senior police officer, Frank Hurube, who is also a football official.

There was also another police vehicle within the convoy which occasionally flashed the blue lights atop it but with no siren.
When the hearse arrived at the homestead,  it was  immediately directed to reverse  towards the  rear of the main tent,  which had been pitched right in front of the main  mourning house. There was a brief discussion between senior police officers and members of the family before Gamedze’s coffin was removed from the hearse and taken into the mourning house.

Upon entering the mourning house, pallbearers placed the coffin at the exquisite sitting room where Gamedze’s widow, Princess Lungile, and other mourners were seated.
A worship song was sung for about four minutes before the pallbearers were instructed to take the casket to another room within the house.
