MANZINI – Truck hijackings remain a great cause for concern in the transport industry, especially those that take place in South Africa.

The Serious Crimes Unit (LUKHOZI) headed by Sergeant Ayanda Dlamini apprehended a Mozambican man who was later charged with stealing a Nissan Truck in South Africa. The Serious Crimes Unit was first alerted by the Bhunya traffic police officers who allegedly came across the truck during a roadblock last Friday.

Information gathered is that a fleet of VW Golf sedans driven by men only blocked a South African truck driver’s way while at Potchefstroom on December 11, 2017.

The SA truck driver was allegedly pointed with pistols and ordered to alight from the truck or else he would get killed.
The driver was then ordered to board one of the vehicles and later tied and  dumped not far from where the hijacking took place.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) officers followed the signal and traced the truck to a place near Bekkersdal where the driver was found tied up near the roadway, however, they later lost track of the truck. It was later discovered that the tracking device had been removed from the vehicle.

It was also gathered that the truck had its chassis and engine numbers completely removed by the people who had stolen it.
One Victorious America Come (31) of Mozambique, who is allegedly among the people behind the hijacking and theft of the truck, was arrested while at Bhunya last Friday.
