MANZINI – Premiers Food bread lovers should brace themselves for a possible shortage this week. This follows that Premier Foods in Matsapha was among the structures that were damaged by the heavy storm on Friday.

According Premier Foods’ Sithembile Khumalo, most of the bread that was baked on Friday in readiness for the market on Saturday was destroyed, leaving only a few loaves.

In other parts of the building, including the production section, Khumalo said the damage was not too severe hence bread production continued while the affected machinery was fixed.

“We were greatly affected and as a result, Saturday’s distribution was not at the normal quantity,” she said.
On a daily basis, Khumalo said the company produces an average of 95 000 loaves of bread and on Saturday, operations were stalled since machinery was being fixed during the course of production.

For this reason, Premier products; including bread, might not be able to meet the demand of customers and a possible shortage might be resultant.

Khumalo said this was due to that some of the bread-making machines would be faulty as a result of being wet.
However, Khumalo gave assurance that the company management was optimistic that during the course of the week, all operations would be back to normal.
