PIGG’S PEAK – When Sandziso ‘Small’ Dlamini was awoken by his girlfriend to leave the house, little did he know that his refusal would cost him his life.

Dlamini, a former employee of Mavovo Forestry where he worked with his 29-year-old girlfriend, died after his lover allegedly stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife. Police confirmed that it was a single stab wound that cost Dlamini (27) his life but sources claimed that he was stabbed countless times. The incident happened on Friday at around 10pm at Malanda where the alleged killer, Thandi Malindzisa, rented a flat. On the day of the incident, Dlamini is said to have been at his girlfriend’s flat at around 10pm. He is said to have been sleeping at the time after enjoying some alcoholic beverages during the day. This is according to a version given by some tenants of the neighbouring flats where the incident happened. According to one of the neighbours who spoke on condition of anonymity, Thandi arrived at her flat only to find her boyfriend sleeping. She is alleged to have arrived with another man who, however, stayed in his vehicle which was parked near Thandi’s flat. “I then heard her shouting at him to wake up and leave the house,” alleged the neighbour. She alleged that Thandi complained that Dlamini was holding her back as she was not able to generate income because of his presence.

“Hamba!” she is said to have shouted at her boyfriend. All these allegations are yet to be proven in court as Thandi is yet to state her side of the story. As such, she remains a suspect in the matter. Dlamini is said to have then retaliated by blaming her for causing him to lose his job because of her alleged delinquent behaviour. The argument intensified when Dlamini accused Thandi of also causing him to lose his girlfriend. During this period, the argument is said to have worsened until the two engaged in a scuffle. It was during the heated exchange that Dlamini allegedly slapped Thandi. She is said to have continued to push Dlamini out of her house, telling him that he was delaying her as someone was waiting for her. Dlamini is said to have attempted to walk out of the house but that was when Thandi allegedly ploughed the kitchen knife in his chest. According to a woman who witnessed the ordeal, Dlamini then staggered but she said she assumed it was because he had been sleeping. “I then saw him fall but only when I got closer did I realise that he had been stabbed,” she alleged. The neighbour said she made attempts to resuscitated Dlamini who was gasping for breath at the time.

“I saw him take his last breath,” she said. She said after the stabbing, Thandi quickly tried to open the door of the vehicle she had arrived in but the driver refused to open. It is alleged she then fled, however, after  police arrived, she returned and handed herself over. Allegations are to the effect that Dlamini was stabbed with a ‘simple’ knife which Thandi is said to have bought from one of the local Asian shops for E8. This was revealed by a neighbour who also had a similar knife which they had purchased together with the suspect.
