PIGG’S PEAK – After spending the whole year preparing for his final examination, a Form III pupil at Mpofu High School was not allowed to sit for one of the English papers under the Junior Certificate (JC) exam.

Angry at the decision by the teacher who had blocked him from entering the exam room for violating a condition, *Musa then slapped the teacher, Zanele Dlamini across the face.
*Musa (17), appeared before Magistrate Simangele Mbatha for the offence as the matter was reported to the police.

The incident is said to have happened on October 24, 2017 at the  school which is situated near Buhleni.
Musa’s version of events was slightly different from what the teacher had presented before court, leading the Crown to lead evidence in the matter.

On the day of the examination, *Musa informed the court that he was supposed to be part of the group of pupils who would sit for the English examination paper.
He told the court that he had not heard his name being called yet the others were called into the exam room.

The teacher, however, said, *Musa appeared to have left the room where he was supposed to be with the rest of the pupils.
This then prompted Dlamini to question him about where he had been but he responded he had gone out to get a pen. Pupils are not allowed to leave the room where they are kept in seclusion while examination is ongoing.

Dlamini said he then told the pupil that he was not allowed to leave the exam room.
She said she then advised him to go to the head teacher but he refused to do so.
*Musa instead waited outside until the examination was over so that he could see Dlamini.
