ENDZINGENI – And its a wrap.

This is the three-week whirlwing of Prime Minister (PM) Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini’s wedding which ended on a high yesterday during the presentation of gifts (umhlambiso). The bride, Gugu Primrose Simelane, showered the PM’s family with an array of gifts. Even the PMs grandchildren were presented with  blankets by the bride. Yesterday’s ceremony began at around 2:30pm where the brides’s family gave the PM and other family members blankets as is customary. However, the PM received the lion’s share as he was given a double bed, a leather chair, kist and chest of drawers, dishes, bedding and a carpet. Other family members were given carpets, futons, blankets, head scarves, casserole dishes and grass mats. After the presentation of the gifts, the two families moved to a white marquee that was set up for refreshments. Similarly to what the PM did last week the elderly from Endzingeni were presented with bar soap and boxes of matches by the couple.

The PM’s past few weekends have been busy as three weekends ago, his family travelled to Hluthi (his wife’s parental home) where lobola negotiations were undertaken. The following weekend the PM flew straight from Thailand and travelled to his in-laws where he present a herd of 18 cattle as lobola. Fast-forward to this past weekend the PM married his sweetheart at the Evangelical Church in Matsapha. The wedding was attended by over 1 500 people and the reception was held in a large marquee that was pitched in the church premises.  After the reception, the bridal party went to Summerfield Botanical Gardens for a photo shoot. The PM did not make any speeches yesterday and kept everyone guessing of their honeymoon destination.
