MBABANE – Be calm, the storm has passed. The storm that ransacked the Kwazulu-Natal Province in neighbouring South Africa will have little to no effects on the country.

The storm that was travelling at about 70 km\h left three people dead, schools in the neighbouring country without roofs, and many cars partly submerged in water.

The Swaziland Meteorological Service Department Senior Forecaster Phephisa Sihlongonyane, said the storm would not reach Swaziland as it was turning towards the Indian Ocean.

“The only people who might get what I can call the out wing of the storm are those from places like Lavumisa, others in the south and maybe the east as well but they will not feel the full brush of the storm,” Sihlongonyane said.
He stated that they were not expecting any severe weather but a few thunderstorms whose chances would range between 30 to 40 per cent in the south.

When asked if locals should panic that their houses may be blown away by the storm, he responded to the negative and added that even looking forward, nothing was alarming at the moment.

He committed to that the department would notify the public, should there be threatening situations like torrential rainfall as a result of a cloud bust or thunderstorms. Sihlongonyane added that at the moment, everything seemed normal but stated that the only thing he would remind the public about was the issue of lightning.
