MBABANE – A young woman unknowingly shared a ‘poisoned’ two-litre of Coke with other mourners during a vigil, which resulted in the death of one of them.

The ‘toxic’ beverage had been allegedly brought to the teenage woman, Kayise Luhlanga (19), by her husband Mbongeni Mbukeni Magagula (26), during a vigil held at Mhlangatane in the northern Hhohho.
Kayise and four mourners shared the beverage, which allegedly led to the death of one of the women and, as a result, Magagula of Mhlangatane has been arrested and charged with one count of murder and four counts of attempted murder. The incident occurred two weeks ago where one Xolile Gamedze died.

It is alleged that the intended target was Kayise, following a misunderstanding she had had with her partner who alleged that she had started being disrespectful towards him two months before the incident.
A bail application filed by Magagula has revealed that trouble in paradise started brewing when Kayise allegedly passed a belittling comment when the two were having sexual intercourse.
She allegedly made a comment about his sexual performance, which Magagula alleged not only humiliated him but left him angry too.

“It became clear to me that Kayise was having an affair as her behaviour and her way of talking to me had become insolent,” alleged Magagula.
Another cause of the misunderstanding was that Kayise had started wearing trousers, which was something that was considered distasteful in the rural area where the pair came from.  “We were arguing a lot about this issue and other behavioural tendencies which Kayise exhibited lately,” said Magagula.

The accused said during the vigil held at a certain Nsingwane homestead, Kayise communicated that she would come from Mbabane to attend the funeral.
Magagula stated that he had asked Kayise to bring him something nice from the city, and she responded by saying that he should be the one bringing the goodies instead. “I promised that I will bring her a cold drink and E100,” claimed the accused, adding that he eventually brought over the goodies at around 10pm.

He alleged that they spoke for a few minutes and he left the items with her.
“At about 3:15am of the same night, I received a call from Kayise telling me that some people had fallen sick at the vigil , this she said was because they had drunk the Coca-Cola I had bought for her,” submitted Magagula.
Magagula further allegedly asked his wife how that had happened and what she had put inside the Coke.
