MBABANE – The Swaziland Christian University (SCU) needs over E200 million to implement its five-year strategic plan.

The strategic plan is for the year 2017 – 2021. The institution, which was opened in 2013, had its revised strategic plan early in January.
The actual figure computed from the data shared in the strategic report totalled E206 121 000.

However, this figure excludes 26 initiatives that the institution seeks to undertake in the next five years. Some of the targets that the institution outlined in their strategic report include filling up vacant posts to address the shortage of staff. For this, the university spent E10 million as it filled them in June.

Also, the strategic plan reflects that the institution would spend E50 million to attain adequate teaching and learning materials. Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor In Whan Kim, spearheaded the amended strategic plan as the first edition was developed and presented to the Public Enterprise Unit (PEU) in November 2016.

The first strategic plan was without important issues including the budget. However, on the revised copy of the strategic plan, the university addressed its goal of being the best Christian university, globalisation and serving the society and the nation.

Kim said the strategic plan was a roadmap to the setting up the engineering school and the first medical School in the country. He said it also sought to address the fulfilment of the memorandum of agreement signed between Africa Continent Mission and government.

“Through this five-year plan, Swaziland Christian University endeavours to fulfil His Majesty King Mswati III’s vision for the first world status by 2022. Cutting-edge research is one way in which innovation and creativity can be developed in Swaziland and SCU, through this roadmap seeks to be in the forefront of this new era in the country,” he said.
