MANZINI – Hardly two days after the discovery of the headless body of a naked woman by a passerby, her husband has been held for her brutal murder.

The man was arrested in Manzini yesterday afternoon.
The headless body of the woman was discovered tucked under vegetation at Mehlwabovu on Monday morning, shortly after 7am.
Detectives collected the remains of a torn pink shirt that was found nearby the remains as well as a black bra which was found still intact with the half-decomposed body.

At the time, it was suspected that the woman may have been murdered and then her head deliberately cut off, either for ritual-related purposes or to conceal her identity.

The latter proved to be true, if information sourced by investigators yesterday was anything to go by.
By Tuesday, detectives were already following a potential lead.

This was after relatives of a woman who had gone missing since July approached the police for assistance in solving her unaccounted absence.
A team of investigators began to work on the case which had haunted the relatives for the past two months, and within a space of 24 hours, there was a breakthrough.

It occurred to detectives to look for the woman’s husband upon getting information about his strange behaviour, shortly after his wife’s disappearance. At that time, it had not occurred to anyone that the woman had died.

Information availed to the police indicates that at some point, the man had asked for a pick axe during one of his visits at his parental home (in the outskirts of Hlatikhulu), which is situated not very far away from the place where the woman’s body was found.
