MBABANE – Thievery has taken a new twist as unknown people bulldozed their way into a tomb situated in a mountain and made away with remains of two people who died about 13 years ago.

This shocking ordeal unfolded at Ekwakheni under the Eluvinjweni Chiefdom in Pigg’s Peak earlier this month in a mountain identified as Phansi kwelitje lakabanyile.

Reliable sources narrated that a Dlamini family realised that the skeletons of their loved ones were missing when they had gone to inspect the place used as the last resting place for their relatives, with the purpose of burying a family member who had passed away.
The mountain is exclusively used by that family as its burial place. When the family got to the mountain, they noticed that the wall built as a crypt for the coffins was bulldozed to the ground and the skeletons were stolen.

The two stolen skeletons were that of a father-in-law and his daughter-in-law, who were buried in 2003 and 2002, respectively. The former was a pastor in one of the churches in the area before he met his death.
A resident described the wall to have been made of rocks and concrete. It was said to be designed to be a barrier that blocked people from entering the cave.

It was built from the floor of the cave to the top. The people who stole the skeletons are said to have brought down the barrier and took every bone they could lay their hands on.
An adult human being has 206 bones; this means that the thugs made away with 411 bones since there were two bodies and only one bone was left behind.
